The aim in assembling the Norman CATHERINE collection which is part of the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION was to select a few works throughout the artist's early period which would enable one to follow his thought processes and to take note of the artist's social and political comments and projections pertaining to South Africa at the time.

There are certain wilful gaps as it was considered that those missing periods - like the Fook and Memo periods - were either not entirely Norman's own concept or execution as in collaboration with other artists, or that they were detracting from the overall importance of his early oeuvre and in particular his airbrush technique.
