Our News

17.09.2011: We started uploading videos on SA art including the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION on our own channel - www.youtube.com/pelmama

11.11.2009: The works received over the years by the Pretoria Art Museum as part of the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION were on exhibit in the North Gallery and the Henry Preiss Hall between 12th October, 2009 and 28th February, 2010, the official opening was on the 11th November, 2009.

09.07.2007: A richly illustrated catalogue of the part of the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION donated to the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Bloemfontein, was published by OAM on the occasion of the exhibition which was opened by Mr Vusithemba Ndima, Chief Director: Heritage, National Department of Arts and Culture, on this day.

01.05.2006: Thanks to generous support from Dr Z Pallo Jordan, Minister of the Department of Arts and Culture, to cover packing, air transport and transit insurance, the Oliewenhuis Art Museum in Bloemfontein received the bulk of the art works from the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION which had been stored in Basel pending placement with a museum abroad and which were freely donated to it by The Haenggi Foundation Inc., together with a large selection of books on international artists, part of  the PELMAMA ACADEMY / THF LIBRARY.

01.09.2005: Go to http://www.art-archives-southafrica.ch/ for archival material on some of the SA artists - this site will be slow in bringing up to date, but what is there should be of great help for research purposes.

03.07.2005: As from this date, you can see all the works with details originating from The Haenggi Foundation Inc. which are on view from time to time at the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Bloemfontein, and at the Pretoria Art Museum! Just click on the various artists' names.

07.02.2005: Researchers may be interested in early works by DUMILE (1965-1967) which we put up as part of the Johannesburg art scene - go to this link - none of these works may be downloaded unless with the written permission from the Dumile Estate.

17.12.2003: The PELMAMA site reflected 42509 impressions between 6.12.2000 and 16.10.2003 by 26645 visitors from over 66 countries and  the SITHOLE site had over 3370 visitors since 17.1.2001 - that certainly beats publishing a book. Do not miss to see the new section on the Johannesburg Art Scene, with its main actors, and lots of images.

20.08.2003: Do have a look at the recently vastly upgraded site for http://www.sithole.com - a comprehensive site on the late Lucas SITHOLE, with about 390 sculptures on view out of 800 recorded works, an important step in making top SA black artists better known; it includes an alphabetical list of the illustrated works!

26.11.2001: The Pretoria Art Museum have agreed to the extended loan period to 31.1.2007 of numerous major works from the PELMAMA PERMANENT ART COLLECTION, which in their words provide a substantial supplement to the Museum's South African Collection.

13.11.2001: Five major works which were on view at the University of the Witwatersrand Art Galleries, Johannesburg, since 1992, have been moved to the Oliewenhuis Art Museum, Bloemfontein, and will remain on view until at least 31.1.2007. They are by Karin Jaroszynska, Tadeusz Jaroszynski, Louis Scott, Lucky Sibiya and Cecil Skotnes.
